Shades Of Blonde
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
I’ve been searching all over this whole wide world for the golden road to heaven,
walking in the light, following the sun, but somewhere inside the book of fashion
I lost my page within the shades of blonde…
I’ve been searching all over this whole wide world looking for religion
reaching out into the great beyond, but the truth looks just like the imitation
on the road that’s paved in shades of blonde…
I’ve got to keep on searching for the light and the truth and the word
And I’ve been walking all over this earth, to the ends of the universe
and I just know I got to keep on [searching, searching]
I’ve been searching all over this whole wide world for the golden crown of glory,
cause I’ve found the beast and beauty to be one, and in the night to my discovery…
I fall asleep and dream in shades of blonde.

Ave Maria
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
She walks into the fire and she walks upon the sea
Oh lady full of gracefulness, style and poetry
She lays me down in her still waters to look, but not to drink…
Ave Maria
She walks upon the water and she walks into the flame
Oh lady full of stylishness, poetry and grace
She lays me down in her green pastures to look, but not to taste…
Ave Maria
Tall and tanned and young and lovely, the girl from Hiroshima goes walking
and when she passes, each one she passes goes:
“Ave Maria”
When she walks she’s like a samba, that’s swings so cool and sways so gently
that when she passes each one she passes goes:
“Ave Maria”
The Lover
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
I can hear her crying out above her radio, that’s playing “Ever Gentle On My Mind”
I listen for that moment oh so beautiful, from within her bedroom over mine
And I can feel her touch, and taste her bitterness on my tongue
And I’m bleeding like a reckless Romeo, and I’m feeling her essence in my hand
And I swear I can hear my name that she’s calling, when she’s reaching out to touch her man
And every child and mother, every woman and man
every heart is a criminal every now and then
And so I’ll stay locked up in my bedroom with my head in my hand
just waiting for The Lover to come again
And I’m bleeding just like a reckless Romeo, and I’m stealing, and she’s calling
Cause every child and mother, every woman and man
every heart is a criminal every now and then
And so I’ll stay locked up in my bedroom with my head in my hand
just waiting… for The Lover… for the Lover… to come again
And I can taste her bitterness on my tongue

I Don’t Wanna Hold Your Hand
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
Oh yeah I’ll tell you something I think you’ll understand
When I say that something I don’t wanna hold your hand
And I don’t wanna make my dreams come true
And I don’t wanna spend my life with you
And I don’t wish to make you understand
I don’t wanna go, I don’t wanna know
I don’t wanna hold your hand
I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna dance
I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna find a true romance
I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna take another chance
I, just wanna be…
Flesh & Blood
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
Diamonds bright and lines of white, four ladies in my hand,
Coast to coast in a Silver Ghost, each curve at my command
And every morning when the sun comes up I drink my fill from a golden cup,
I’m the flesh and the blood
Muscle and bone and nerves and stone, to bend steel in my hands,
Lips of wine and a Valentine, will break what’s left standing
And in the morning when the sun comes up I drink my fill from a poison cup,
And the flesh and the blood and the guts and the mud, and the gold and the dust,
and the diamonds and fluff and all the style
and the grace in the world ain’t enough…
To make a man out of me
Diamonds bright and lines of white, four ladies in my hand,
Coast to coast in a Silver Ghost, each curve/ at my command
I chose fortune’s road to a life of elegance
And I’m guilty I know, of my own innocence
And the flesh and the blood and the guts and the mud, and the gold and the dust,
and the diamonds and fluff and all the style
and the grace in the world ain’t enough…
to make a man out of me
Satin & Steel
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
Satin and steel, tonic and gin chocolate stick, cigarette kiss, needle and skin…
Denim and lace, cute tattoo, peppermint twist, licorice lips, two by two…
Diamond from coal, blood from stone, Cadillac taste, style and grace,
wish on bone…
Smoke and steam, shine and rain, angel’s calling, cradle’s falling,
thought of train…
Riches and rag, one blind mice, heaven and hell, hammer and nail,
lightening twice…
Country and town, land of free, finders, losers, four deuces beat aces three…
Finders, losers, four deuces beat aces three… finders, losers,
four deuces beat aces three…

Chevrolet Blue
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
Blue, blue, once had a Chevrolet it was blue, blue
She was a beauty with a soul, with the power
and control to move down the open road
Blue, blue, once had a Chevy Malibu, blue
Her spirit made me come alive,
just like drinking and driving into oncoming headlights…
So bury me in my Chevrolet blue, and keep my memory
cause everything you touch you may not feel
And bury me out upon the highway where
anything that’s lost just seems more real
Blue, blue, can’t be the color of the blues
Cause it’s the color of my fate, the only feeling
that I’d hate to lose to the lone highway…
So bury me in my Chevrolet blue, and keep my memory
cause everything you touch you may not feel
And bury me out upon the highway where anything
that’s lost just seems more real
Like falling awake behind the wheel

Wendy-O
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
Wasn’t the fast life fast enough?
Wasn’t the night time dark enough?
I would have given to you everything
Oh Wendy, Wendy what went wrong?
Did the bright lights reveal too much?
Did the blush upon your face conceal enough?
I would have stolen from you everything
but you’d already given away everything
Oh Wendy, Wendy left me alone, hurts so bad
I thought we had our love down pat, guess I was wrong
And it makes me just wanna die, to see you make it with another guy
Was the time of your life not time enough?
Did the guitars’ scream loud enough?
Was it just time and place or simply outer-space
written in the stars and in the moon and in the sun up in the sky?
Oh Wendy, Wendy left me alone, hurts so bad
I thought we had our love down pat, guess I was wrong
The furthest thing from my mind was the day that I’d wake up to find…
My Wendy, Oh Wendy, Oh Wendy, Oh Wendy, Oh Wendy, Oh Wendy Oh!

GOD
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
And in the end…
God made woman from a virgin child and dressed her in red,
with diamonds & pearls to disguise a soul as innocent as sin.
and then he took his woman for a night out on the town
and promised her that time would never end.
And then he moved his hand and her youth was gone,
so she took her life down by the paradise and just like Mr. Jesus Christ
started over, again…
And in the midst…
God made the beast out of a virgin child and dressed it to kill
with style & grace and poetry and with a line as original as sin.
and then he took his human for a drive outside of town
with an icy cold, colt 45 in his hand.
and when he moved his hand, thy kingdom had come undone,
so he bet his life on a pair of dies and drew a straight on the inside
to start over, again…
And in the beginning…
man made the God in spite of him, and dressed him in black,
shameless and beautiful, alive and as mortal as sin.
and then he moved his hand, over his guitar…
and left his wife, sold the paradise and saw that it was good
and just alright… and started over, again…

CHILD KILLER
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
He smoke the same cigarette as me
he suck the same lucky like I do…
draw it down, till the fire kisses you
he smoke the same cigarette…
I walk alone, down by the river, with my friend
and skip a stone, across it like I do…
you won’t never come back to me
but it’s gonna find it’s way to you…
I walk alone down, by the river…
Don’t ask me how I can do these things
don’t ask me why, or I might just tell you everything…
don’t turn your back to me, don’t come too close,
keep your distance safely,
cause I can only love the one I can hurt the most…
There’s a child sleeping in my bed,
with the eyes wide open like I do…
I know his company, will end my misery, it’s true…
There’s a child…killer…

Stone Like Thee
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
Why wasn’t I made of stone?
Lost in a world of innocence and sin, I walked the line and like a fool I fell
for a godless girl in a woman’s skin, I crossed the line straight into hell
Now like a river my blood does flow, cause I’ve seen beneath her Sunday clothes
legs like a switchblade knife, that open and close.
God made me from dust and rubble and clay,
from spit and pride and shame
and a heart to feel the pain…so exquisitely…
Why wasn’t I made of stone… like thee?

Heroine
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
I’ve been beaten, battered, cursed and abused,
I’ve been stolen, borrowed and blue,
I’ve been broken, forgotten, like a promise unkept, and the only time I feel alive
is when your fingers are wrapped around my neck
I’ve been shattered and wasted and twisted and torn,
I have lived and I have died out on the road
I’ve been reckless and helpless
and hopelessly lost, abandoned, boughten and sold…
I lost my innocence on a filthy garage floor
And the only time I feel alive is when you let me be your whore
So let me be your woman, let me be your heroine,
let the show go on forever, until the end
Cause electricity fills my veins when you touch your fingers to my strings
and the only time I come alive is when you’re killing me
I’ve been beaten, battered, cursed and abused, shaken, rattled and rolled
I can go from Rotten to religion just like ringing a bell
and turn your one-note melody into gold…
I’ve spilled my insides out on the stage at the Holiday Inn
And the only time I feel alive… is when you’re killing me… with your heroin
So let me be your woman, let me be your heroine
let the show go on forever, until the end
Cause electricity fills my brain when you touch your fingers to my strings
and the only time I come alive is when your killing, killing me
And the only time I feel alive is when you’re killing, killing, killing, killing me…

Buffalo Nickel
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
Coca-Cola empties in my hand, easy money for to spend,
Shiny nickels all look the same, but for one buffalo nickel in that change
And it takes me back, before the west was won- take me back…
200 horses and a four-speed in my hand, take me running o’er this land
But every highway and byway all look the same
And I’m never quite at home on the range
Yippy I O Ki Ay, take me back to another day,
Before the west was won, to where the buffalo run, Yippy I O Ki Ay
And every highway and byway and driveway all look the same,
And I’m never quite at home on the range
Coca-cola empties in my hand, easy money for to spend,
Shiny nickels all look the same, but for a lone buffalo nickel did I claim

Wichita Falling
& © 2007 Gregory Lee Pickard
There’s a thunderhead rising o’er the hillside,
bringing in the news from across the plains
The ending of the world made all the headlines,
but in my mind it still looks all the same
Wichita falling like the sky broken by thunder and lightning
Like a woman whose heart is dying, like a baby’s first time trying
In a boxcar heading nowhere cross the country,
in a drunken sleep that n’er recalls a dream
There’s an empty guitar case filled with the ashes of a younger cowboy who played upon it’s strings
Wichita falling like the sky broken by thunder and lightning
Like a woman whose heart is dying and like a baby’s first time trying
In a time beyond the edge of the horizon, in a land with no beginning and no end
Where a boy in shining armor slays the dragon,
there’s a place to which I’ll never know again
Wichita falling like the sky broken by thunder and lightning
Like a woman whose heart is dying and like a baby’s first time trying
Wichita calling, and though my dreams have fallen far behind
The Wichita lineman is still on the line

You come into my stereo, you come into my sight,
You try and tell me something about rock & roll. You come into my mind
The way you touch my hand
You come to my party, you come into my sight,
You try and tell me something about rock & roll. You come into my mind
The way you touch my hand
You come to my opening, you come into my sight,
You try and tell me something that I already know, You come into my mind
The way you touch my hand

Lovers’ Dilemma
& © 1980/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
Every time I try to love you, you start to cry,
Every time I try and leave you, you wanna know why…
Can it be the air about you? Can it be the clothes your wear?
Can it be your look I wonder why?
Because I know you’re never gonna leave me, you’re never gonna love me,
you’re never gonna leave me now

97 Tears
& © 1980/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
She’s got good looks and she’s looking, She’s got good love and she’s lovely
She’s got the time that’s on my side, it’s such a feeling so hard to hide (la la la)
The things we said, the times we had…
She’s got good luck and she’s lucky, she’s had some fun and she’s funny
She’s got the time that’s on my side, it’s such a feeling so hard to hide (la la la)
The things we said, the times we had…
Let me be the one you cry on…Cry, Cry, Cry

Brighter Side
& © 1981/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
Fly daddy’s Lincoln, out on the highway,
she’s looking for trouble cause that was her own way
And she was looking at me, I was all she could see
She was my baby, so please, please take care of my baby
She’s on the side, on the brighter side of this world
Coming to crossroads, pushing on eighty,
“please stop on that red light honey”- but she wasn’t ready
She was looking at me, I was all she could see
She was my baby, so please, please take care of my baby
She’s on the side, on the brighter side of this world
And if I loose her, I’ll know she’s safe on the other side
She dressed in yellow, ribbons fall from her hair,
I’ll always need her- but she’ll be up there
Just looking at me, I was all she could see
She was my baby, so please, please take care of my baby
She’s on the side, on the brighter side of this world

Outlaw Without A Gun
& © 1981/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
I was a wild one, I dressed in black, you took your bullet
and you shot me in the back
That’s why I’m running (yes I’m running)
You got me on the run, outlaw without a gun
Well I drink whiskey, play one-eyed Pete, you took your bullet
and you shot me in the seat
That’s why I’m running (yes I’m running)
You got me on the run, outlaw without a gun
And I keep wondering why, and I keep wondering why
You got the best of me, you want the rest of me
In Silver City, I’ll make my stand, you took your six-gun and you put it in my hand
No more running (no more running)
No more on the run, this outlaw’s got a gun
And I keep wondering why, and I keep wondering why
You got the best of me, you want the rest of me

My Town
& © 1981/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
There is a bank and a Church with a steeple in my town
Open the doors meet all the people in my town
She’s sitting, I’m standing, he’s running, you’re thinking, they’re playing,
she’s lonely, I’m dreaming, they’re dancing and painting the town
and standing in long lines
Violins buried by the sound of sirens and a rumble underground
and when they meet they fade into harmony
There is a Church and a bank with a steeple in my town
Open the doors look at the people in my town
he’s running, she’s waiting, I’m happy, you’re talking, they’re dreaming,
he’s working, she’s pretty, they’re dancing and painting the town
and standing in a long line
Violins buried by the sound of sirens and a rumble underground
And when they meet they fade into harmony

It’s a Beautiful Life
& © 1982/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
All the king’s men and ladies lived happily,
I always knew that miracles were meant for me
But when I hold my heart up to the light, I can see right through it
It’s a beautiful life and you can do just anything- just keep it clean
It’s a beautiful life and you can get just anything that you’ve ever seen
Pretty people they live wealthily, they have a maid and a man to do the groceries
But when I hold my life up to the light, I can see right through it
It’s a beautiful life and you can do just anything- just keep it clean
It’s a beautiful life and you can get just anything that you’ve ever seen
Pretty baby she’s turning seventeen, turning heads and pages in the magazines
I’d like to hold her in my arms to see if she believes that
It’s a beautiful life and you can do just anything- just keep it clean
It’s a beautiful life and you can get just anything that you’ve ever seen

White Elvis
& © 1982/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
Well I’ve just woken with another hangover, to a girl who could stay over
She’s not pretty but it doesn’t matter, we both got what we both were after
And we don’t hope that it will last forever, we just like to be together
We never lie and we never say never, we don’t love, we just f-ck
And what we’ve got is no deeper than the ocean, no it’s not higher than a mountain
But it’s just like a Black Chuck Berry, thinking about a White Elvis Presley
Well I’ve been working all my lifetime, writing songs and singing in the nighttime
I never get to see the sun shine, but I think I’m gonna make it sometime
And we don’t hope that it will last forever, we just like to be together
We never lie and we never say never, we don’t love, we just f-ck
And what we’ve got is no deeper than the ocean, no it’s not higher than a mountain
But it’s just like a Black Chuck Berry, thinking about a White Elvis…

All These Things (The World’s Fair)
& © 1976/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
You gotta stay together, through all kinds of stormy weather,
you gotta hold on and carry on
You gotta do all these things
You gotta bring home money if you wanna have a honey
You gotta bring home money if you wanna have a honey
Jacket and a tie on a wise guy, Jacket and a tie on a wise guy,
Jacket and a tie on a wise guy,
Jacket and a tie on a wise guy, Jacket and a tie on a wise guy,
Jacket and a tie on a wise guy,
Jacket and a tie on a wise guy, Jacket and a tie on a wise guy,
Jacket and a tie on a wise guy,
Jacket and a tie on a wise guy,
The scene takes place at one of our World’s Fairs, The entire family is there
And I’m naked and I don’t have on any clothes
I seem to be fascinated at the fountains as they draw me near in expectation
Wading in the water was such a real sensation.
Wading in the water was such a real sensation.
At the World’s Fair, At the World’s Fair, At the World’s Fair…
the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair
the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair
the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair the World’s Fair
I’m just a walkin’ and I’m talkin’ to myself, and I say to myself…
You gotta stay together, through all kinds of stormy weather,
you gotta hold on and carry on
You gotta do all these things…

A Children’s Story
& © 1982/2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
All God’s children need love and affection, they learn too fast and bleed too soon
All God’s children get a good education: that’s if you want to win,
you’ve got to learn to lose
Children don’t you talk to strangers, Babies don’t you play with matches,
Children don’t talk back to teacher, children must respect their elders
All God’s children need love and protection, a place to run to, a place to hide
All God’s children got to face the season when their children’s day has died
Children don’t you talk to strangers, Babies don’t you play with matches,
Children don’t talk back to teacher, children must respect their elders
Bad boys don’t go to heaven, bad girls can’t find a husband,
Bad boys don’t get no dinner, bad girls must learn their lesson
Don’t do that -there’s children watching
Don’t say that -there’s children listening

Sail Away
& © 2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
In a house upon the hillside, each room furnished in sin
it’s a long, long way to heaven and longer back again
The television is re-running the story of my life
so I fall into my armchair like butter through a knife
Sail Away
On a highway through a fiction book, each turn a memory
I’m posing for some photographs against the scenery
And every road is a crossroad, and each a right of way
and just like everybody else- I take the road less paved
Sail Away
In a boat out on the desert, an oceans world apart
I reach into the blackness for a just handful of stars
And like the blind man trips the darkness, fantastically the wind
does fill my empty pockets and carries me home again
Sail Away

Architecture Of Love
& © 2004 Gregory Lee Pickard
I stand alone at the top of the world,
waiting for the morning light to shine upon your steel
Awakening to the end of the world,
keeping the secret touch of desire only lovers’ reveal
Shine a light on me, into the dark,
into the deepest, blackest, darkest corridor of your heart
And I will re-create my life deep inside love’s architecture
Now I walk alone through the canyons of fear,
waiting for the darkness to fall from within your eyes
Take me to a world without end,
hide me inside of the ruins of love’s fire in your skies
Shine a light on me, into the dark,
into the deepest, blackest, darkest corridor of your heart
And I will re-create my life deep inside love’s architecture
Now I stand tall in this city of sin,
casting a shadow beyond the extent of my own desire
Shine a light on me, into the dark,
into the deepest, blackest, darkest corridor of your heart
And I will re-create my life deep inside love’s architecture
And I will re-create my life…
